Automated Afterschool Scheduling & Activity Management System
Independent Software Development | Interactive Simulation
Objective: Develop a comprehensive afterschool care system that introduces realistic scheduling, childcare expenses, and structured activities into an existing simulation environment. The goal was to create an intuitive user experience while automating the complex processes behind enrollment, attendance, skill development, and daily care.
Disciplines: Systems Architecture · XML Development · Workflow Automation · Conditional Logic · Interaction Design · Event-Driven Programming · UX/UI Development
Approach: Designed and implemented a configurable scheduling system featuring four enrollment options, each with distinct attendance windows and recurring costs. Developed automated workflows governing homework completion, needs management, and rotating daily activities that build individual skills.
Integrated 40 unique chance-card outcomes, introducing conditional events, custom emotional effects, schedule extensions, and variable expenses. Structured the system around existing gameplay mechanics to create a cohesive experience that operates with minimal user intervention.
Outcome: A publicly released, independently developed software modification that transforms a previously unstructured afterschool period into an interactive, automated care experience.
The completed system combines recurring schedules, automated resource management, skill progression, and event-driven outcomes into a single user-friendly experience—demonstrating how thoughtful system design can simplify complex processes without sacrificing functionality.
